Today I lost my auntie Jennifer. We were not close, but she chose life on her terms.
She did many things that were both inspiring and dutiful.
She didnt want visitors but made effort to visit with those she cared about.
She took on full custody of her grand daughter when her own daughter made the difficult decision to give her up due to personal challenges. Raising a beautiful, warm young woman who started a lovely family of her own.
She ran a small farm, was a loyal and supportive wife.
She was a local councillor who was firm on important issues and valued by her community.
She made no apologies for how she lived or who she was. Authentic. Real.
She didnt conform to societal norms which may have been shaped by a tough childhood, with an absent father and stoic mother who had 6 children. One of which she raised as a grandmother.
She was her own person but she showed up for those she cared for. Almost 10 years ago she accompanied my mum on many a hospital visit, providing support, love and confidence. She didn’t hesitate to support her sister in a time of need.
The world will miss Jennifer. They really dont make them like her anymore.
