The Golden Rule

“Treat others as you would like to be treated”

I just watched a film at the cinema, that I first watched in 2010. At the cinema. What a unique experience. I have the minds at Curzon for choosing this film to show during pride month.

Tom Ford’s cinematic debut. An adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s novel from the 1960’s.

A Monet of a movie.

I fall in love with it more every time I watch it. The characters, the story, the heartbreak, the moments, the beauty, the tragedy and the kindness.

Tom takes an unusual love story from a period, where this was far from acceptable, and is delicate with it.

A very quotable movie. But the most poignant one for me is this. “A few times in my life I’ve had moments of absolute clarity… When everything seems possible. This clarity has mostly been an illusion, but at the time it felt real”.

Like George Falconer we cling to those moments. This movie just created this for me, for the 50th time. I wish many of these moments on anyone who reads this.

The book and film are called A Single Man. Check it out. You won’t find many better ways to spend a couple of hours.
