The Golden Rule

“Treat others as you would like to be treated”

Who is steering your car

Indifference and not caring, is something I think we need to teach people to be better at. It’s harder to do in life, but as an adult it is a constant quest for me to figure out what doesn’t matter to me, and ignore it.

The boat doesn’t sink from the water around it, the boat sinks from the water that gets inside.

Profound words yes. Stopping the water getting in, is a bit harder.

I didn’t grow up around wisdom. I grew up around ‘survivors’ people that saw more problems than solutions. People who thought they could never steer their own car. They were destined to be a passenger. From the back seat.

In a world, where nothing is good enough, perfectionism spawns.

The book Grit changed my life. I only wish it had been published 20 years earlier. In an early part of the book it says “excellence is more important and attainable than perfection”. I didn’t know. It went on to say “the biggest enemy of a good job is a perfect job”. Words so sage, you could put them in a potato stew.

What’s the point to all this. I’ll try and summarise. I’ve tried to have my hands on the wheel, the whole journey of my life. I didn’t and don’t need to. Perfectionists do that, and I am not one. No one can control and do everything. I’m focusing on the things that matter to me, and everything else is for the birds.

I’ll leave you with this. So sage, it could go in some beef and onion crisps.

The razor blade is sharp but can’t cut a tree,

The axe is strong but can’t cut the hair.

Everyone is important according to their purpose.

Never look down on anyone unless you are admiring their shoes.

And with that. I’m gone.
