Spoken word poetry. Attempt #1
What you are reading here is an update, of what I’ve witnessed as of late.
After year 24, to the city I work in, I don’t recognise your face anymore.
There is no movie without characters, and they have all left the show.
I spent two days observing, but the city is no longer serving, me what I came for, it’s gone for good.
Headphone sales are at all time high, whilst interaction’s are at an all time low.
It’s never been a friend, but it’s never been an enemy, I see people logged out but online. Loneliness in busyness.
I see a city of language lacking a voice.
The city is to be embraced not disgraced. I see expectation, I see respect-taken away from the place. It used to be out of sight, now it doesn’t try to hide.
Cyclists drive on the path and through lights, like it should be their rights. To get to where they are going, because they are the ones that matter. Love for their fellow man they do not natter.
A city of strangers. A city of speed. A city of dangers. A city of greed.
When I visit a country or city, I drink in their lives. You can never have too much respect for what you will find. Leading with kindness always enters the mind.
I hope the visitors begin to care.
I’m not religious, but this is my prayer.
Inspired by the work of Malik Yusef.
