The Golden Rule

“Treat others as you would like to be treated”

frasier

Tossed salads and scrambled eggs.

Is that a breakfast dish? I’ve still never understood the words to the shows opening lines. Perhaps a metaphor for how messy their lives can get.

The thing that surprises me most, is that the American creators didn’t feel compelled to change the S to a Zee.

Frasier for me is simply sensational. Not only is the show relatable, it has a great balance of high brow, low brow and everything in between. Frasier is a perfectionist but flawed, confident but vulnerable. But in the main he wears his skin well.

The search for deeper meaning takes him to some cool places both physically and spiritually. Fundametally his principles guide him to the right conclusion. He has a strong morale compass and ethics. Not just professionally but based on his upbringing.

I have the DVD boxset which I handle with care. It’s a master stroke to have it. All digital platforms will charge me to view it, and if I unsubscribe, move house or upgrade, I will have to pay all over again to watch it. Whilst Frasier would feel compelled to keep up with ‘the joneses’ I feel like Martin would have made him keep the DVD player too. Something he would dig out in an episode, and be delighted to find his old movies and tv shows. His move would be seen as shrewd. A homage to a different era.

The reboot last year was a smash. They played it with care and with craft. I’m thrilled to see Frasier still being himself, bringing people together and having a great bond with his son. Naturally all the while in Loro Piana. Ros even makes an appearance.

Kelsey Grammer nailed his character. So believable, I bet he wishes he had Frasier’s life.

I hope there is more to come.

Thank you Seattle, we love you!
